Our Crappy Newspapers

Kenyan newspapers are notorious for their typos. I frequently find a name spelled in multiple ways in the same story. Where are their copy editors? If the best writers in English are such poor spellers and have non existent attention to detail what does that say about the rest of us.

But this headline has to take the cake. Pull up your socks Nation. And do so now.

Kibaki Forever!

I am not usually one to get all bent out of shape about our leaders, I really have not had much reason to in the past. However, I recently spent a few splendid weeks in Kenya and boy am I impressed! The country is booming. Everybody is making money -- from the corner kiosk (that btw is so well stocked it looks like a mini-Walmart) to the large industries (especially construction related industries) to the banks (who continue to fleece everyone).

Kids are going to school, farmers are getting paid for their meat, milk and coffee. Kenya is working -- in both senses of the word.

If this is what MK can do in four short years, why aren't we all insisting that he returns for a second term?
